ALK + and Lung Cancer Links

This page is just a quick links of useful pages I have found when wanting more information on Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) with the anaplastic lymphoma kinase gene (ALK+).

ALK Information – This website (uptodate) has a great summary of the medical view of ALK+ but should note it does focus on Stage 4 of ALK (as most ALK+ people diagnosed are).

ALK Positive site – This is a great start to explain what ALK + is, and has some get references and also has links to their closed facebook group for people with ALK+ or their direct care givers. I would recommend this site if you have ALK+ and signing up to the Facebook group.

Cancer Council Australia – They have handy information for all major cancer groups and the link here is the lung cancer section.

Lung Foundation Australia – The peak body for Lung Cancer in Australia. A great site about lung cancer and some great informatics. Just remember not to focus too much on some of the survival stats – just saying, it does all depend on your personal circumstances.

Rare Cancers Australia – A useful site for some quick information on NSCLC. I have put the link to the NSCLC page as it can be a bit hard to find.

TOGA – Thoracic Oncology Group Australasia – This is the leading cancer clinical trials group. It is more aimed at medical professionals but does have some great information when you are trying to understand staging etc.

Very Well Health – I discovered this article only recently. I found it summarised the why in regards to ALK+ and the treatment options if/when it progresses. Probably a good article for those trying to understand the what is ALK+ in a nutshell.

Prostate Cancer Links

Cancer Council Australia – Cancer Council Australia has lots of great resources but this is the link to the Prostate Cancer info.

Physiotherapy with Prostate Cancer info sheet – an Australian based info sheet about physiotherapy prior/post surgery. Personally, I saw a physiotherapist that specialised in prostate cancer and had an ultrasound before surgery so we could make sure I was using the right muscles. I highly recommend getting the ultrasound, it let me know the right muscle was tightening as guessed I had not used it much before!!

Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia– This is a great place to start. This site has lots of information and support available.

“The manual” for Pelvic floor exercises – a UK Prostate Cancer sites book on Pelvic Floor exercises. This answered some of my later questions such as “do I have to do this stuff for ever” and “what can cause incontinence to come back (or feel like its coming back)?” Ohh the answer is yes – you have to keep doing them but maybe not as much as when started.
